Emotional Awareness & Regulation

Participants build skills to identify anxiety triggers, understand emotions, and respond to stress with greater confidence.

Supportive Peer Connection

A small, confidential group where teens feel seen, heard, and less alone in their anxiety.

Mindfulness & Calming Tools

Teens learn practical techniques - breathing, guided imagery, and grounding - to calm anxious thoughts and body responses.

Resilience Without Screens

An analog, screen-free space that supports focus, nervous system regulation, and real-world coping skills.

This group is for

This short-term therapy group is designed for teen girls experiencing anxiety, stress, or overwhelm. The group blends evidence-informed anxiety management skills with mindfulness, creative expression, and peer support. It is ideal for teens who are generally functioning well but need additional support around anxiety, self-confidence, and emotional regulation.

This is an in-person group - a space to slow down, reflect, connect, and build real-world relational skills without screens.

Note: This group is designed for teen girls, including trans girls and teens who identify with a feminine-centered experience. Questions about fit and identity are welcomed during the application process.

Teens in this group will

Build healthy self-esteem and a more compassionate relationship with themselves - especially in moments of worry or self-doubt

  • Strengthen emotional resilience and self-trust when navigating anxious thoughts and feelings

  • Learn practical tools to calm the nervous system and manage stress related to school, friendships, and social pressure

  • Practice clear boundaries and authentic communication in peer relationships

  • Feel less alone through meaningful, supportive connection with other teens who understand anxiety

  • Explore identity and self-expression in a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment

This group is designed to be grounding, supportive, and empowering - offering both emotional nourishment and concrete skills teens can use in daily life.

Approach

This is a therapeutic group facilitated by a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, blending evidence-based anxiety-focused therapy with growth-oriented, experiential practices.

This approach integrates:

  • Relational group therapy – safe, structured opportunities to share and process anxiety experiences with peers

  • Life-coaching–informed tools – goal-setting, strengths exploration, and values clarification to manage anxious thoughts and build confidence

  • Art therapy–inspired exercises – creative activities for reflection, expression, and stress reduction (no art experience needed)

  • Mindfulness practices – guided meditation, visualization, and grounding exercises to calm the nervous system

The tone of the group is warm, supportive, and empowering - practical tools for daily life are taught in a friendly, non pathologizing way.

Themes Include:

  • Building a positive self-image & compassionate inner voice — especially in moments of worry, self-doubt, or anxious thoughts

  • Boundaries, consent, and self-advocacy — learning to say no and set limits in stressful social situations

  • Emotional awareness & regulation — recognizing and responding to anxious feelings with practical coping skills

  • Archetypes and identity exploration — understanding personal strengths, values, and self-expression in a safe, supportive environment

  • Resilience in the face of stress, comparison, and change — tools to manage school, social, and peer pressures without overwhelm

  • Healthy relationships with self and others — practicing connection, communication, and support while navigating anxiety

About Maia

Maia Kiley, LMFT, is a licensed therapist based in Brooklyn. She has extensive experience facilitating groups for adolescents and young adults, including her work as a group therapist at Rosewood in Santa Monica, where she supported teens navigating anxiety, identity, eating disorders, and emotional regulation.

Maia brings a relational, trauma-informed, and holistic lens to her work, and is especially attuned to highly sensitive, thoughtful, and introspective teens. She creates safe, supportive spaces where teens can develop practical coping skills, build confidence, and feel less alone in their anxiety.

  • This is a therapy group facilitated by a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. It focuses on managing anxiety, developing coping skills, and building emotional resilience.

  • The group is designed for high school age teens 14-18. Groups are age-specific to ensure participants feel comfortable and supported.

  • Groups are intentionally kept small, typically 8-10 participants, to support safety, connection, and meaningful participation.

  • Each session includes a brief check-in, a calming mindfulness or grounding practice, and a focus on an anxiety-related skill or theme. Teens engage through discussion and experiential activities (such as reflection, creative prompts, or visualization), with time for peer connection and support. Sessions end with a grounding exercise so teens leave feeling settled and supported.

  • Feeling anxious can be overwhelming - especially when it feels like your mind won’t slow down. This group is a supportive, screen-free space where teen girls can learn tools to manage anxiety, connect with peers, and build confidence in a calm, creative, and nonjudgmental environment. You don’t have to “fix” yourself to belong here.

  • The fee is $110 per session or $660 for the whole program. This can be either paid in full or in a payment plan.
    Groups are offered in 6 week cycles and consistent attendance is encouraged to support group cohesion.

    • This therapy group may be eligible for insurance reimbursement depending on your plan.

    • Maia can provide a superbill for reimbursement if your insurance offers out-of-network mental health benefits.

  • A limited number of sliding-scale spots may be available. Please inquire for current availability.

  • We understand that teens may occasionally have conflicts due to illness, school obligations, or family commitments. We ask that participants attend as many sessions as possible, as the group builds on shared experiences and consistency supports safety and connection. If your teen needs to miss a session, please let us know in advance when possible.

  • Yes. Many teens participate in group therapy alongside individual therapy. With consent, coordination with your teen’s individual therapist is welcome.

  • That’s very common. Teens are never pressured to share before they’re ready. The group is designed to feel supportive and low-pressure, so participants can practice coping with anxious feelings in a safe environment.

  • As a licensed therapist, I monitor group dynamics closely and respond clinically if strong emotions or safety concerns arise. Parents will be contacted if there are concerns related to safety.

  • To support presence and connection, phones are not used during group sessions. Teens are encouraged to unplug while in the space.

  • Families begin by completing a brief application so we can assess whether the group is an appropriate fit for your teen and for the group as a whole. In some cases, a short phone call may be scheduled to clarify questions or gather additional information before confirming enrollment.

  • While regular attendance is encouraged, I understand that life happens. Teens can make up missed sessions by practicing skills independently, and session notes may be shared with parents as appropriate.

  • Yes. Confidentiality is respected within the group. Teens are encouraged not to share what other participants say outside the group, and facilitators maintain professional confidentiality in line with ethical standards. Safety concerns (self-harm, abuse, or threats to others) are exceptions and will be communicated to parents as needed.

  • Parents receive general updates about the structure and goals of the group. Specific details about what individual teens share are confidential, unless there are safety concerns.

  • The group meets in-person in Brooklyn Heights at 26 Court Street in a calm, supportive, and welcoming group office room.

  • Parents and/or teen complete a short online application to help ensure the group is a good fit. Once the application is reviewed and your teen is accepted, you’ll receive a confirmation email with payment instructions to secure their spot. Accepted participants will also complete a brief intake form through secure therapy software (Theranest) before the first session.
